The TII 365S Protector Unit provides solid state surge voltage protection and failshort features. It has been designed as one of a range of solid state protectors particularly suited to the protection of sensitive electronic telephones, answering machines and the like.

The protector capsule contains a bi-directional thyristor diode and a fusible alloy failshort mechanism operable under power cross conditions. The solid state diode has been selected to provide voltage limiting in a lower voltage range than normally provided by carbons and gas tubes. At the same time lower limit devices are expected to be immune to generally accepted levels of induction. Surge life and a.c. current handling capacity characteristics have been shown to be ideal for a wide field of use. The solid state protectors insure dependable service with consistent response to a.c., d.c. and very fast rising surge voltages. When a surge has been cleared, self restoration is quick under the normal range of holdover test conditions. These protector units will provide low maintenance cost without problems normally associated with carbon airgap devices.

The standard brass cartridge and spring loaded contact cage houses the protector capsule. A fusible alloy element is included to ensure a low resistance short circuit to ground in the event that a sustained power cross fault occurs.
